NYRA Sets 2018 Racing Dates at Aqueduct, Belmont and Saratoga
Racing in New York will cover 229 days in 2018 starting with 61 days of the Aqueduct winter meet the first week of January. The New York Racing Association’s 2018 racing calendar will feature some of the biggest races of the year, anchored by the 40 day Saratoga summer meet and highlighted by the 91st running of the Whitney Handicap (G1) and the 149th edition of the Travers Stakes (G1). Live racing will be conducted six days a week, Wednesday through Monday at Saratoga.
Saratoga’s summer meet starts July 20 and concludes Sept. 3. The Belmont spring/summer meet begins April 27 and concludes at ‘Big Sandy’ July 15, and is anchored by the 150th running of the Belmont Stakes (G1) during the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival taking place June 7-9.
Following Saratoga, racing will return to Belmont for the 36-day fall meet, beginning Sept. 7 and running through Oct. 28.
NYRA’s 2018 season will finish with 38 days of racing at Aqueduct starting Nov. 2, and featuring a simulcast of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships Nov. 2-3 from Churchill Downs. After a four-day break during Christmas week, racing will return on New Year’s Eve.
