California Chrome and Arrogate Headline NBC TV’s Coverage of Pegasus World Cup Invitational
The inaugural Pegasus World Cup Invitational is set for Saturday, Jan. 28 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, FL, and NBC will televise the event for 90 minutes starting at 4:30 ET. The new world’s richest race with a $12 million purse is contested at 1 1/8 miles.
A star-studded field of 12 is headlined by the Breeders’ Cup Classic rematch between California Chrome and Arrogate, who are the bookend favorites, breaking from the 12 and 1 posts. Those two recently received Eclipse Awards with California Chrome winning 2016 Horse of the Year honors.
The post times and morning line odds are set, and NBC’s coverage will include a feature on California Chrome, who was bred for just $10,500 and has become the winningest horse in North American with more than $14.5 million in thoroughbred racing earnings.
Mike Tirico will host the NBC broadcast alongside Hall-of-Fame jockey and analyst Jerry Bailey; analyst Randy Moss; analyst/handicapper Eddie Olczyk; host/reporter Laffit Pincay, III; and reporter Donna Brothers. E! News’ Maria Menounos joins the telecast as a co-host, covering the pageantry, celebrities, and fashion at the event. NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports App will also provide live streaming of the broadcast.
