Churchill Downs Hosts 12 Two-Year-Old Races Saturday Including Golden Rod for Fillies
The $200,000 Golden Rod (G2) may take a back seat Saturday to the Derby prep race $200,000 Kentucky Jockey Club (G2), but the race offers plenty of opportunities to cash in on some strong fillies looking to make their mark.
The two featured graded stakes races are part of the huge racing day Saturday, Nov. 25 at Churchill Downs, as all 12 races are for 2-year-olds.
The Golden Rod drew 12 fillies and they will go 1 1/16 miles on the main track in Race 6 with post time near 5:00 ET.
The two favorites Monomoy Girl (8-5) and Sultry (4-1) opened the meet with a win and will try conclude the meet with another stakes victory. Monomoy Girl is undefeated in three starts with one win on the dirt for trainer Brad Cox, and his barn has been riding strong under the Twin Spires lately. Sultry (4-1) is the $400,000 daughter of Malibu Moon who has won 3 of her past 4 races.
Looking for a longshot? Stronger than Ever (15-1) has to potential to upset and could live up to her name after winning her only two races. A pair of solid works at Keenland leading in makes her one to watch from off the pace. Road to Victory (8-1) has the right name and pedigree along with a brilliant bullet work over the track for trainer Mark Casse. She tries both dirt and a route of ground for the first time. She’s really been training well at Churchill off her only race and win Oct. 1. Of course, if you want to really go for the winning name, then the George Arnold-trained Cash Out (8-1) is the one to include, however her best two races were on the turf.
Most horse players are going to ride the favorite and hot horse Monomoy Girl. But we’ll be looking for Road to Victory to hit the board and include her in win and exotic wagers as she continues to progress. Her recent works says she’ll do that at a solid price.
